The four ways to get eggs

Purchased eggs: find the egg station in a zone, walk up, and press E (or tap) to spend Gold. Auto-Hatch keeps buying until you run out of Gold.

Scattered / hidden eggs: colored eggs sitting on rocks, in trees, sheds, and parkour spots. Touch one to hatch it for free. The rarity usually matches the zone you are in.

Quest eggs: missions at the top of the screen (break crystals, earn Gold, collect drops). Completing one can reward an egg. The tier tends to match the highest zone you have unlocked.

Hourly egg: claim it at spawn once per hour. Rarity scales with Pet Score — community guides put Ascended hourly eggs around 5,000 Pet Score.

Common Egg

First egg in the game. Hatches Common pets. Buy it while you are filling the collection and farming early shinies — Meadow and Forest Commons are still useful because you hatch so many of them.

• Buy: Meadow, Forest, Arctic, and Grove — 7,500 Gold (rebirth “Cheaper Eggs” upgrades can drop this)
• Hidden: 3 in Meadow, 4 in Forest — look on Meadow rocks, the spawn-area tree, and the Forest shed
• Quests: Common (or mixed Common/Uncommon) while Desert is still your ceiling

Uncommon Egg

Second tier. Buy these as soon as Desert is open if Gold is flowing; otherwise keep fusing Commons until you can afford the station without stalling upgrades.

• Buy: Desert, Arctic, and Grove — 35,000 Gold
• Hidden: 1 in Meadow, 1 in Forest, 3 in Desert, 4 in Arctic
• Quests: more likely once Desert / Arctic are unlocked

Rare Egg

Third tier. Beach is the first place you can buy them. They are the grind egg for a long stretch — lots of Rare pets exist, so you will hatch many of these while filling the dex.

• Buy: Beach, Mountains, and Grove — 160,000 Gold
• Hidden: 2 in Arctic, 4 on the Beach
• Quests: typical reward once Beach is unlocked

Epic Egg

Fourth tier. Mountains is the first buy station. Grab the free Epic eggs in that zone before you dump millions of Gold into the station.

• Buy: Mountains, Jungle, and Grove — 750,000 Gold
• Hidden: 2 on the Beach, 6 in the Mountains
• Quests: show up after Mountains / Jungle are open

Legendary Egg

Fifth tier. Jungle is the first buy station. There is also a free Legendary hidden in the Mountains — do not skip the parkour for it.

• Buy: Jungle and Grove — 3,500,000 Gold
• Hidden: 1 in the Mountains
• Quests: late mid-game rewards once Jungle is unlocked

Prodigious Egg

Sixth tier. You need Grotto (100 Shiny Score) before you can buy these. Grove also sells them and hides free Prodigious eggs.

• Buy: Grotto and Grove — 12,000,000 Gold
• Hidden: 4 in Grove (walk the zone after you unlock it)
• Quests: tied to Grotto / Grove progress

Ascended Egg

Seventh tier, late-game. Buy it in the Mine (inside the rebirth / late-game area). Community guides also say the hourly egg at spawn can roll Ascended once Pet Score is around 5,000.

• Buy: Mine — 30,000,000 Gold (Cheaper Eggs / Even Cheaper Eggs in Rebirth Cave can drop this toward 25M then 20M)
• Hourly: spawn pad, about 5,000 Pet Score for an Ascended roll
• Not a starting egg — ignore it until Grotto/Grove and rebirth are in play

Hidden eggs by zone

Walk each new zone once and grab every free egg. They refill your fusion pile at no Gold cost. Counts from community maps:

• Meadow: 3 Common, 1 Uncommon
• Forest: 4 Common, 1 Uncommon
• Desert: 3 Common, 3 Uncommon
• Arctic: 4 Uncommon, 2 Rare
• Beach: 4 Rare, 2 Epic
• Mountains: 6 Epic, 1 Legendary
• Grove: 4 Prodigious
• Jungle and Grotto: still hunt the obvious parkour and buildings — maps are less complete there

Which egg to hatch

Hatch the highest rarity you can buy without starving upgrades. If Auto-Hatch empties your Gold and crystals feel slow, drop one tier, fuse, and buy damage/speed first. Free scattered eggs are always worth grabbing, even if they are below the egg you are buying.
