Rank is the long grind. Ember Village logs and green scrolls carry you early. Community advice still points at around rank 1000 before serious bloodline hunting. Later villages and raids assume you can survive other players.

Stay here until green scrolls are trivial. Hopping maps early just means dying to ranked players.
Missions
Scroll color roughly tracks difficulty. Farm what you can clear without dying. Rank from deaths is slower than boring Ember loops.
